natural remedy: chest balm

natural remedy: chest balm

natural remedy: sinus clearing chest rub

It’s hard to protect ourselves and our little ones from common colds at this time of year, so we loved finding this homemade natural chest rub recipe from Nicola at Homegrown Kitchen. Nicola is a mother of two, and knows exactly what it's like when little ones struggle to sleep due to blocked noses & chest congestion. This simple recipe is made from just a few ingredients and only takes 10 mins to make!

For little one’s sensitive skin, just rub a small amount on the side of the arm during the day to watch for a reaction before using. You can also rub it into their feet before sleep, as an alternative to the chest. The chest rub is not suitable for children under 12 months, so for babies we recommend applying the chest rub to a tissue and placing this under their sheet or next to their bed.

Ingredients

10g beeswax, grated (weigh the exact amount using electric scales)

100ml extra virgin olive oil

10 drops peppermint essential oil

10 drops eucalyptus essential

10 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions

Combine the grated beeswax and oil in a small bowl and sit this over a small saucepan of simmering water. Use a wooden spoon to stir until the beeswax is dissolved. This will take about 3-5 minutes. Once the beeswax has dissolved, remove the bowl from the saucepan and add the essential oil drops. Pour into a small jar and set aside to set - it will thicken as it cools.

Please note, we recommend pregnant women check with a health professional before using. Do not apply to broken or infected skin, for external use only, store away from children. In rare cases, this product may cause skin irritation and/or eye irritation.
