Why Choose Organic Wool

Nature Baby certified Organic Merino Wool used to make our essentials range is a perfect fabric for babies. It insulates, absorbs body moisture, breathes and is soft and non-irritating. This is very important for babies who still have fragile temperature mechanisms.

Nature Baby organic wool is completely free of all chemicals eg scours, drenches, bleaches used in the wool process - which can contribute to wool sensitivity or wool allergy in some people. We carefully monitor the entire production process of our Organic Merino Range which has been certified organic by IMO - a highly qualified external certifier ensuring that high environmental and social criteria are being met to ensure we are providing parents with the assurance of high quality pure products.

Organic Merino Wool production is based on positive holistic management systems, which reduce or eliminate the need for most agricultural chemicals and promote healthy soils, air, waterways and humane animal practices. Thus, happy sheep, babies and parents.

Organic sheep are bred for resistance to parasites and are fed outdoors all year round on special herbal pastures to build healthy immune systems. Organic sheep must graze only on certified organic farms and be fed certified organic stock feed. Genetically engineered or modified feed is prohibited, drenching is done naturally and mulesing is not practiced.

The company who supply our organic certification has been significantly involved in developing the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and has been officially approved as the first certification body at all to offer certification according to this world-wide accepted standard for ecological textiles.

Medical research at Cambridge University showed that lambswool has a soothing, swaddling effect on babies, resulting in better sleep, reduced stress, greater contentment and improved weight gain. Studies showing similar results were reported in the British Medical Journal, Lancet, and the Australian Medical Journal. Lying directly on lambswool decreases a baby's activity rate, producing a deeper, more restful sleep, and promoting a faster growth rate. For many years, hospitals in England, Australia, and New Zealand have used lambs wool pads to line incubators for premature and low birth weight babies.

Please Take Care of Me

  • As our wool has not been treated with anti-shrinking or fixing agents, please take extra care when washing garments.

Don't Shrink Me

  • Always check the washing instructions as some garments require hand washing.
  • Always use cool water, less than 30 degrees celsius.
  • If the water is too warm, the garment will felt and shrink.
  • Always lay garment flat to dry in the shade or use a cool dryer setting.

Don't Bleach Me

  • Always use an approved liquid wool detergent.
  • Do not soak or wash your woolen garments using laundry powders.
  • Did you know most laundry powders contain whiteners which act like bleach, even 'eco-whiteners' may still bleach your garment creating bleach spots and holes! If the garment is stained, use our Stain Soap and rub into the effected area before washing

Pilling

  • As our wool has not been treated with a synthetic coating, it may pill.
  • If pilling occurs, do not despair, this is a natural process where friction causes the short fibres to migrate to the surface. Once removed these will disappear.
